The Prairie Scholars

Tuesday,

Starts at 6:00PM

Join us in the Tavern for great music, happy hour until 7pm, 50% off bottles of wine, food specials, and good time.

The Prairie Scholars: Husband and wife team, Andy and Jessica Eppler perform together blending Andy’s darkly poetic Texas folk with Jessica’s driving and haunting rock melodies. Honest, aggressive and passionate The Prairie Scholars document in their music a journey out of the flatlands and into the shadowy world in search of a home.

Jessica, a Sweetwater, TX native, moved to Levelland, TX upon enrolling at South Plains College. She quickly earned the respect of her peers with her captivating songwriting and classically inspired musicality. While at school she met Andy who had also been making a name for himself as a prolific songwriter by incessant recording and performing in nearby Lubbock, his hometown. Soon the two were married and began producing material.

Andy released four solo albums (There is No Underground 2007, Dark Places 2008, Disease in the Heartland 2009, Long and Lonesome Way 2011), which gained him not only a hearty following of keen thinkers and art lovers but also glowing international reviews. Jessica performed in the band Clandestine Amigo in venues all over the south plains and finally released a live recording in 2009 (Clandestine Amigo). They began recording and performing together in 2010 as The Prairie Scholars and have released four collections: Strangers in the Modern Era (2010), Live Wires (2010) and The Wasteland Ramble (2012), Live Wires II (2013).

Join us in the Tavern for great music, happy hour until 7pm, food specials, $4 martini deals, and good times!

They sure do smile and laugh a lot when they play those old songs.

Mike Finders (say finnders) and Alex T. Johnstone met five years ago at various bluegrass festivals around Colorado. They often found themselves in jams backstage and looked forward to each meeting. Though each man was busy touring with his own band, (Mike with Finnders and Youngberg, and Alex with Spring Creek) they knew they would eventually work something out.

In 2012 they finally booked themselves some duo shows, and hammered out a set list of bluegrass, country, blues and folk songs on guitar and mandolin, with two-part brother-style harmony throughout.

Since then, they've been performing mostly breweries around Boulder, CO. They recorded a few songs, live in the studio last Spring and are featuring those, along with some new videos on their facebook and reverbnation websites.

Their show is full of smiles, improvised solos, uninhibited singing and some great old lonesome songs. Come warm up to the Dukes of Winter.

Bonnie and the Clydes

Friday,

Bonnie & the Clydes is a fiery six piece country band exploding on to the Colorado Front Range scene. Fronted by Bonnie Sims, one of Colorado’s best up and coming singer/songwriters, and backed by a unit of musicians with more than 80 years of combined musical experience, this band is shaping a new sound of Colorado Country.

Bonnie Sims commands the stage with a natural presence of a songstress beyond her years. At twenty seven she has already established herself as a hard working woman of this modern musical era, doing the majority of booking and managing for the band as well. Bonnie sings with a voice that seems too big for her petite (almost) five foot frame, belting to the back row wherever she is with heart and soul. Her energy is infectious and undeniable, she makes it easy to love and impossible to sit still, be it an emotional evoking ballad or a peel-the-paint country rocker. The band consists of Taylor Sims (Bonnie’s husband) on electric guitar and vocals, Nancy Steinberger on fiddle and harmony vocals, Michael Schenkelberg on bass guitar, and Jake Coffin on drums. In addition to Taylor’s electric guitar and vocal contribution to the band, he and Bonnie also pool there songwriting talents to co-write many tunes that define the unique Bonnie & the Clydes’ sound.

We funk it up with tunes you just don’t hear from a horn band.

Some “hot licks with a funky twist” is what you’re in for.

We have funked out a variety of events leaving those in attendance with smiles on their faces and wanting more. Come to a show and get your fill of the funk!

The Pamlico Sound

Saturday,

The Pamlico Sound, a funk/soul/psychedelic band from Boulder CO, first appeared in September 2010. In a short time they have created a huge local buzz, becoming known as “Boulder’s premier party band” (The Marquee, April 2011) and playing clubs, theaters, festivals and special events across Colorado’s Front Range and beyond. The group displays fierce mastery of the funk and soul genres, dizzying musicianship, and above all a sense of fun and freedom which feeds their audiences’ desire to cut loose and dance.

In their first year, the band performed at Denver's Bluebird Theater, 5 times at Boulder’s Fox Theatre, and at a string of monthly house parties which have become notorious. In 2012/13, TPS have played the Boulder Theater, more shows at the Fox, and Denver's Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom and Oriental Theater among many other great stages, and will be at fave venues and festivals all through the coming seasons and beyond. And at that party. Or is it that other party. Oh, maybe at both.

Colorado Blues Challenge

Sunday,

The Colorado Blues Society is launching its annual competition for the 2015 Blues Foundation International Blues Challenge. The IBC is an international search conducted by The Blues Foundation and its affiliated organizations (local blues societies from around the world) for the Blues Band and Solo/Duo Blues Acts that are ready to break out and perform on a national stage, but need perhaps that one extra break. This competition will give the winning band tremendously valuable exposure. In Memphis you will gain terrific contacts from other bands, promoters and record companies. This competition has been called “more valuable than $100,000 in marketing” for the winning band. This is the road to Memphis for our local talent as we have sent 5 acts to the semi-finals and 3 to the finals in the last 3 years alone! There are two categories, band competition and solo/duo competition.
The local winner in each category competes in the IBC in Memphis, TN from January 20th– 24th, 2015. CBS will be assisting the winners with expenses for Memphis. During the last 3 years CBS raised over $5000 each year that was divided between our winning acts to help finance their way to Memphis.

Performers to be announced soon.

Esther Sparks

Tuesday,

Starts at 6:00PM

Join us in the Tavern for great music, happy hour until 7pm, food specials, 1/2 off bottles of wine, and good times!

Esther Sparks was born and raised in a castle in the west of Scotland; in what you might call a spiritual-communal-living-situation (not a cult as such – they didn’t make you stay, or take your money, or make you marry numerous people, they were just into Jesus, and peace and love and justice and macrame and what-not) She attended high school in a fairly violent, and repressed wee town, which was such a contrast to the peace-loving commune in which she was raised that an identity crisis ensued!

Esther came to the United States in 1996. For 11 years she lived in New Orleans, where she played music with numerous wonderful musicians, including Mike West, of Truckstop Honey Moon, who produced 2 of Esther’s 4 albums. She now lives in Lafayette, Colorado where she daily enjoys views of the magnificent Rockies, plays music at every brewery, pub, wedding, arts event and food-joint she can for a living, and helps her husband run their contracting business Blue Moose Builders. Her latest release a live album called ‘Back to Life’ is a collection of songs which chronicles the past few painful years of Esther’s life and her re-emergence back into joy …

One man, big sound. With a guitar, a homemade stomp box, a banjo, an array of harmonicas, and a homemade cigarbox mandolin, Herlihy blends a unique folk sound through story telling and acoustic jamming. Stomping and finger-picking in and out of historical time frames, Herlihy paints a picture of the world, how we got here, and where we are going all over top of captivating riffs. While not sounding even remotely close to anyone else, Jim is truly one of the more unique solo musicians performing on the front range today.

The Congress with special guests THUNK

Friday,

Evoking emotions that you thought had long passed – the feeling of your first cigarette, or the way you feel listening to a worn vinyl as it warmly crackles against the sound of a summer night – The Congress is naturally compared to many names and styles of years gone by. But drawing such comparisons is, in many respec...ts, a misguided endeavor. Misguided not because you’d be wrong, but because you’d be missing the beautiful point – The Congress are a natural evolution of more than 60 years of purely American music. With a spirit rooted just south of the Mason-Dixon Line, and now calling Denver – “The Queen City of the West” – their home, they’ve got enough soul, grit, and have spent enough time in the woodshed and on the road to call them pretty much whatever you want. But whatever words you think you need to describe their contribution to the American music tradition – save your breath. The Congress play Rock & Roll.

THUNK is a straight up 5-piece Americana jam band with a BIG sound. We choose a blend of hard driving tunes, feel-good songs, and a steady groove. With rich tones and solid vocal harmonies, we bring a great show with us wherever we go! We have an awesome time on stage, and thoroughly enjoy sharing our passion for music with you all.

Mark Brut

Wednesday,

Starts at 6:00PM

Join us in the Tavern for great music, happy hour until 7pm, food specials, $4 martini deals, and good times.

There are those musicians who can’t help but write about what they know… what they have experienced. Mark Brut certainly fits that mold.

Hailing from Philadelphia and recently relocated to Denver, Brut has spent the past 12 years in the south, mainly in Atlanta and the great music town of Athens, GA. He maintains strong roots to his hometown, but has also absorbed much of the music and culture that the south has to offer.

Mark’s writing continually touches on the same subjects…how your experiences mold you as a person, finding hope and dealing with disappointment in these trying times, and trying to make sense of "what you do and what you see." Songs such as “The Sky’s All Mine”, “High Country” and “Almost There” certainly fall in these categories.

Beyond the songs, Mark’s strength lies in his guitar playing. While performing solo acoustic or electric in a band setting, Brut’s passion for life bleeds over into his playing. The diversity of his influences also is evident as you hear him play.

"I Love blues music! Blues bands are not hard to find. But a band that can play blues music (play: to perform in such a way that one watching is compelled to get off one's ass.) with complete precision and purity is! The only factor keeping this band from legendary status is time, and though I personally live thousands of miles from Mr. Boa and his venomous crew, you can bet your asp I will be doing all I can to prepare the east coast for Erik Boa and his Constrictors...the second coming of the blues!"

Ash Ganley

Starts at 6:00PM

Join us in the Tavern for great music, happy hour until 7pm, 50% off bottles of wine, food specials, and good times.

Some artists you just know are going to be doing their craft, no matter what
and no matter where, for the rest of their life; it’s just what they do.
They’ll grow and change with their songs and the music they play,
and so will their music grow and change with them as they move through life.

This kind of dedication, over time, can yield some powerful music and
goes a long way in creating the kind of creative environment in which the
song and the artist become inseparable; where the listener knows, somewhere
down deep, that this symmetry of song and singer is the real deal, forged in the fires of life.

Ash Ganley is that type of artist.

Hornbuckle with special guests Another Mother

Friday,

“KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!”- One of the few things Denver blues guitar legend Bobby Hornbuckle could be heard uttering to his two teenage sons Brian & Michael back when the boys were cutting their teeth with their father on stage as his back up band. Seems harsh, but he was trying to impress upon them the intimate subtleties of the blues - the age-old wisdom that less is more. Job well done Bobby....
FAST FORWORD TO 2014
Michael is now in L.A. and invited Brian out to do another album. Universal Music producer Alex “Ace” Baker and Michael had been writing songs for the record in between doing soundtrack session work for Universal. Brian was the keystone to the record’s completion. “Virtue & Vice” was released Sep. 2013 and was immediately embraced by their fans, raved about as a soulful ride through the good, bad, & the ugly. Their music indeed delivers those intimate subtleties and nuiances passed down by their father. Thriving again, Denvers’ “1st Family Of The Blues” now commence joyfully to the next chapter of thus a 20-year long run. Refocussed, respected & reunited, these are exciting times for the Brothers. Professionalism, work ethic and dedication are the principles that the brothers diligently adhere to so that they may continue playing for their faithful and growing audience. Michael Hornbuckle guitar & vocals, Brian Hornbuckle bass & vocals, Lance Crane drums, Ace Baker Keys

Doctor Robert

Saturday,

Not your everyday Beatles tribute band, Doctor Robert marks a new generation of tribute bands, bringing a thoroughly modern sound and feel to the Fab Four’s classics. The band is quickly becoming respected for its extended, high-energy sets including everything from “Please Please Me” to “Abbey Road,” and because no two shows are ever the same. Dressed in mod-Beatles circa 1964, Doctor Robert relishes the challenge of recreating even the most demanding musical compositions in a live setting, often improvising during the performance. Like the quintessential Beatles tribute band, The Fab Faux, Doctor Robert does not attempt to impersonate the Beatles. For Ben Wright, Karen Janssen, Casey Falter, and Kevin Reinert, it’s all about the music and the infectious energy created when Beatles fans come together.

The Beatles wrote the most game-changing collection of music in the history of rock and roll.  With over 200 songs written and recorded, their extensive, far-reaching influence is undeniable. Doctor Robert has a current live rotation of 110 Beatles classics, and each show is catered to the audience and venue. The members of Doctor Robert come from musical backgrounds covering everything from jazz to bluegrass to funk to classical; and their diverse musical tastes and experiences combine to inspire their interpretations of The Beatles’ music.

Karen Janssen observes, “it has been amazing to watch people of all ages and backgrounds at our shows, singing and dancing to familiar songs they love. You know you’ve ‘struck the right chord’ when grandmas and grandpas are kicking up their heels right next to groups of jumping toddlers, or when the serious guy at the back table is smiling and singing along from the first note we play to the last. We feel strongly about helping keep the spirit of such wonderful music alive.”

Kevin Reinert adds, “We’re not just another Beatles cover band. We wanted to break the mold of the typical Tribute act and bring a fresh and modern interpretation of the greatest pop music ever written. We’re extrememly happy to play all Beatles music night after night, on a big night we’ll play for four or five hours. The music is incredibly diverse and so much fun, we absolutely love to play this music and audience reactions are overwhelming. The Beatles only performed live during their early career. Once they became a world-wide phenomenon, they only played 30 minute sets that could hardly be heard over the screams of adoring fans. We like the idea of playing the music as a touring band would, with extended sets that change for every show. There are just too many great songs that never saw the chance for live performance.”

Blues & BBQ with Ash Ganley

Sunday,
Join us on the patio for great music, $2 Bud and Bud Light Bottles, BBQ Plate specials, and good times in the summer sunshine.

Ash has been a humble apprentice to many a
musical muse over the years, and spent his time touring and recording in bands-
as both a bandleader and side man- that have ranged in style from Reggae to Bluegrass,
Alt Country to Blues Fusion and Rock and beyond. All of these different styles naturally
found a hybrid home in Ash’s own unique voice as a singer, songwriter and guitarist.
In an age where too often the desire for instant gratification and disposable
commercialism have wed to dominate the music marketplace, rare is an artist like
Ash Ganley who is able to distil down hismyriad musical experiences into such a potent,
well-honed mix of roots rock, timeless acoustic pop, and edgy Americana Soul music
in a way that sounds seamless, comfortably familiar and totally signature.

Seth Phillips

Wednesday,

Join us in the Tavern for great music, happy hour until 7pm, $4 Martini Deals, food specials, and good times.

All this and more has been said about Longmont, Colorado-based musician Seth Phillips. And what can he do but own it?

"Not to be pretentious," he says, sipping on a local organic microbrew and stroking his beard, "but a successful song to me is something that affects you on a physical level. A rush of excitement, a shiver down your spine, a smirk on your lips, or a tear in your eye."

His original songs range in subject from "raving evil genius" to "madman wandering in the desert" to "unrequieted nerd love" to "hitchhiker searching for home." And the good ones just might touch something deep inside the most cynical heart.

Might, anyway. Some people are pretty cynical. Not this guy.

"Nah I tried cynicism for a while. Couldn't keep up with it. Too much effort. Way easier and more fun to be amazed with everything. Plus I write better songs that way."

The Prairie Scholars

Tuesday,
